Here is the most nocturnal Nightjar in Quebec.
At night above the Tadoussac sand dunes, between the Moulin à Baude bay and the woods towards the Petites-Bergeronnes, I have watched this singular bird, in June 2003 and August 2009 .
In my notes, the Saw-Whet owl, the Great Horned Owl, the American Nightjar, the Veery, the Swainson’s Thrush, and Hermit Thrush.
The cream speckled primaries, the three external rectrices marked with white, the grey-brown bird, eloquent, sitting or flying, never ceases to sing its ‘ouip-pour-oui’ sounding like ‘ bois-pourri’ in French, meaning ‘ rotten wood ‘ or the English name ‘ Whip-poor-will’ .
Being back at the end of April, he settles in woodlands and open habitats, sandy grounds.
He will go back to Central America at the beginning of October.
The sculpture is set on a Sycamore Maple stump found in France.

Voici l’Engoulevent le plus nocturne du Québec.
La nuit venue, au dessus des dunes de Tadoussac, entre la baie du Moulin à Baude et les bois vers les Petites-Bergeronnes, j’ai observé cet oiseau singulier, en juin 2003 et août 2009.
Sur mes notes, la Petite Nyctale, le Grand-Duc d’Amérique, l’Engoulevent d’Amérique ; les Grives fauve, à dos olive, et solitaire.
Les primaires mouchetées de crème, les trois rectrices externes marquées de blanc, l’oiseau gris-brun, éloquent, posé ou en vol, n’a de cesse de chanter avec son « ouip-pour-oui », ressemblant à « bois-pourri » ou au nom anglais de « whip-poor-will ».
De retour en fin avril, il s’établit dans les boisements et habitats ouverts, les terrains sableux. Il repartira en Amérique centrale début octobre.
La sculpture est ici posée sur une souche d’Érable Sycomore trouvé en France.
